If you know which application form you need, use the guides below to support your application process. For more information about how to connect visit, Get Connected.
First check whether you are in Ausgrid’s network area?
Ausgrid distributes power in parts of NSW, mainly along the coast. If you’re not in our network area you’ll need to contact neighbouring electricity distributors, Endeavour or Essential Energy.
Modifying a connection?
To find out if you are already connected to our network, check if the electricity meter on your premises has a number between 4102000000 and 4104999999 or NCCC000000 and NCCCZZZZZZ (if so you’re connected to our network).
Approved generator systems must be registered with AEMO
Once your application is approved you will be required to update information about installed generation equipment in the Australian Energy Market Operator’s (AEMO) Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Register.
Once your connection application for embedded generation has been approved by Ausgrid, as a condition of your customer connection contract, and in accordance with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) DER Register Information Guidelines, you will be required to provide details of any small generating unit at your premises.
This applies to all sizes of generator systems (including batteries and changes to existing systems), from small to large, that are not a registered participant with the AEMO.
The information needs to be provided within 20 business days of commissioning, altering or decommissioning generation equipment.
Your installer or licensed electrician will provide information to the AEMO DER Register on your behalf. They will need to hold an account with AEMO for the DER Register and relevant details will be emailed to the connection applicant once an EG connection application is approved.
You are seeking a formal written response to an enquiry,
Including:
Embedded networks
General connection enquires
General embedded generation or energy storage enquiries
If you intend to connect a generator to the network and wish to do so under the NER chapter 5 Framework
If you intend to connect a generator to the network the will be registered in the National Electricity Market
If you are a Market Participant or an Intending Market Participant
If you are seeking Ausgrid’s endorsement for a proposed aggregation of a wholesale demand response unit(s). Please ensure your application includes the information set out here and select the enquiry type “I have some other connection related enquiry that requires a written response from Ausgrid".
EXCEPT where you need to:
Subdivide land
Relocate or decommission an Ausgrid asset
Modify the street lighting network
Seeking a written response in regards to a council
For the options above please use the application forms provided.
Complete a Network Asset Relocation Request Form (NARR) online to request relocation of an Ausgrid asset.
An upfront non refundable payment is required to make your application, and if Ausgrid agrees with your asset relocation proposal there may be significant expense for you in funding the work. For further information on the process seeMoving asset and poles.
Please note: If your connection requires the network to be extended or upgraded (augmented) you will be responsible for costs of network augmentation and you will be responsible for arranging and paying relevant Accredited Service Providers (ASPs) to do the augmentation work.
A Notification of Arrangement is a written confirmation from Ausgrid in regards to a council condition. For example;
The local council may require you to lodge a subdivision application, a development application and building application, depending on the scope of your proposal
Your local council may also impose conditions of consent, which must be met before development can proceed
In most cases one condition of consent in your Development Approval will be that you obtain a Notification of Arrangement (NOA) from Ausgrid. This NOA serves to indicate that you have made the necessary arrangements to provide electrical services to your development and that you have met the costs and any other servicing requirements identified by Ausgrid.
This form should be used to apply to decommission an existing Ausgrid Asset e.g. a substation.
