Trade streams
There are three trade streams available within the Bright Spark Apprentice Program.
Lineworker (Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead)
If you’re active, love the outdoors and will enjoy working at treetop level then this is for you. You’ll learn how to build, improve and maintain the poles and wires that deliver electricity to our high and low-voltage customers. You’ll gain various licences and become skilled in the operation of plant and equipment associated with the trade.
Cable Jointer (Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Underground)
If you’re after work that’s outdoors, hands-on and internationally recognised, this apprenticeship is for you. Working in small teams, you’ll look after the underground cables that are an integral part of our electricity network. You’ll learn to join and terminate high and low-voltage cables. You’ll gain various licences and become skilled in the operation of plant and equipment associated with the trade.
Electrician (Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician)
This apprenticeship is for anyone who is good at solving problems and using their mathematical mind. Our electricians mainly work on the electrical equipment in our substations as well as light, power and data circuits, You’ll learn to install, test and fix electrical equipment to help maintain our electrical distribution network. You will also pick up new skills and become a licensed electrician.
Application process
- Apply: Register your application, schedule an aptitude test and submit a one-way video
- One-way video: Submit your video responses showcasing who you are and why you are passionate about an Ausgrid Apprenticeship
- Aptitude test: Attend a pre-selection test to assess comprehension and mathematical knowledge and skills.

- Pre-employment assessments: Medical, criminal history, qualification and reference checks
Applicant requirements
- You must be an Australian citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.
- You must have completed Year 10 and/or be over 17 years old to apply for a full-time apprenticeship.
- You hold or are working towards a driver’s licence.
