The Electrical Trades Union (ETU) members have voted in favour of a range of industrial actions starting from August 1, 2024. This action is classed as Protected Industrial Action. We respect the right of our employees to participate in industrial action and are liaising with the Fair Work Commission to mediate the bargaining dispute.
While emergency work will not be affected by the action, households and businesses could experience maintenance delays and other consequences.
The ETU issues notification for series of 24hr bans on certain types of work including but not limited to; use of digital devices, operation of digital locks, network switching and access requests, connections and disconnections, connection design approvals.
Power outages
Necessary repairs to the electricity network deemed ‘Emergency work’ will not be impacted by Protected Industrial Action and we will continue to restore power to customers as quickly and safely as possible across our network.
Scheduled planned outage work and connections may be subject to cancellation at short notice where we determine that we do not have the correct staffing volumes to complete the task safely. We are contacting those developers and Accredited Service Providers (ASPs) with scheduled work to work through rescheduling options where necessary. Customers who have registered their mobile number with their retailer, will be notified of any planned work cancellations.
We apologise for the inconvenience and will continue to manage and minimise the impact on our customers, developers and other government agencies where we can as we liaise with the Fair Work Commission to mediate the bargaining dispute. We seek your patience as we work to negotiate a fair outcome.
As we continue mediation, the safety of our customers and employees is paramount and our field operators will continue to perform emergency repairs to the network.
