Demand Management Investigations

Demand management is an important part of efficient and sustainable network operations; and can help address a network need due to rising customer demand, aging network assets or other investment drivers. For projects not associated with the Regulatory Investment Test, Ausgrid applies a similar but simplified process appropriate to the cost of the project. Engaging and consulting with industry and market providers is an important part of the process of exploring non-network options to maintain grid reliability at lowest cost to consumers.

Below is a list of our demand management projects which we are currently investigating where we invite interested parties to submit their proposals or feedback for providing solutions.

Demand Management Projects (Non-RITD)

Addressing increased customer demand requirements in the Campsie area

During September 2019 Ausgrid invited industry proponents to propose demand management solutions to address increased customer demand requirements in the Campsie (NSW) area. Submissions closed in mid October and 3 proposals were received which are currently being assessed. Addressing increased customer demand requirements in the Gillieston Heights area

A request for proposal (RFP) was published in May 2019 to invite industry proponents to submit proposals to address future increases in customer demand in the Gillieston Heights area. Solutions were sought to defer the need to make supply side network upgrades. The RFP closed at the end of May and one proposal was received which was assessed as unviable for the project, full details of the need, demand options considered and results of the assessment can be read in our Project Assessment Report. The resulting preferred option is a residential and commercial customer air-conditioner demand response program in the Gillieston Heights area.

The program was launched as the Power2U Aircon Saver Program in September 2019 and is currently in preparation for the upcoming summer season.
